« Clean room and convenient shuttle bus for a quick pit-stop »

I had to make a quick business trip to Utrecht and was only able to book a late flight at such early notice. I was arriving at 23:20 local time and would have to be up and ready to continue my journey at 6:30 the following morning. Unable to find a reasonable place in the city I decided to check in to the Tulip Inn at Schiphol for the night. The shuttle bus, which takes about 15 mins, dropped me to the hotel just before check-in closed for the night. Funky lobby for such a cheap hotel, which a nice, if expensive, collection of snacks and beers available for purchase from a chilled cabinet next to the reception desk. The receptionist was more than helpful, especially considering the hour. All I wanted for the night was a clean bed and a quiet room and that's exactly what I got. Nice, comfy king size bed, clean bathroom and a TV. No tea and coffee service in the room but I think complimentary hot drinks were available from the bar. At 6 the next morning the shuttle bus picked me up and dropped me at Schiphol train station. I wouldn't book into this hotel for a long stay and I don't think it would work particularly well as a base from which to explore The Netherlands, but as a convenient, overnight or short-stay hotel it worked a treat!

« Pit stop on the way home »

This airport hotel was a stopover after a cruise. It was neat and clean. The staff was attentive and friendly. Great coffee machine. Too bad the bus fare from the airport was not included in the transit pass.

« Comfortable and quirky boutique hotel »

Overview • Very pleasant surprise for this not-so-little 3-star hotel • Relatively new, so the decor is fresh, fun and clean • Lots of relaxing communal spaces around the lobby, bar, and restaurant areas, for large and small groups or individuals to socialise and relax, or even work in relative seclusion and privacy Bedroom • Fair-sized room (not huge but decent) • Same fresh, fun décor as rest of hotel (a bit art deco, a bit mid-20th-century, a bit Scandinavian chic) • Some furnishings already beginning to show slight signs of wear – especially soft furnishings like curtains • Comfortable bed and quiet room made for good sleep • Sufficient storage space for overnight stay Bathroom • Good size • Large walk-in shower • Large 250 ml bottles of toiletries to share – but great quality full of botanicals; smelling and feeling great on the skin (Molton Brown-esque) Bar • Well stocked, especially with local artisan beers • Kowledgable, friendly staff – so don't be afraid to ask to try before you buy • Cold beers, spicy bar snacks and relaxed ambience was great antidote for stressful day Service • All staff were relaxed and attentive – though hotel did not seem to be busy • Free transfers to airport can be arranged the night before with the desk staff and the courteous driver • Free transfers from airport are timetabled – note that they can be hourly in the evenings
