I stayed at the Golden Tulip for the second time, it was as good as the first time. Sometimes things change due to different rosters for staff but service was with a smile. Room cleaning was over and above, the whole room was gone over each time. Again a great location so I will be going back and using this hotel as my Base when staying in Shanghai on weekends. I recommend it to anyone.

« Nice hotel in a good location »

Location of the hotel is good, about 5-7 mins walk to the nearest subway station (Tiantong line 10). It is also near the 'Qipu Road Clothing Wholesale market' where you can get clothes at very reasonable price. This hotel is also opposite the postal museum and 15-20 mins walk to the Bund and East Nanjing Road. Hotel room itself is newly renovated and of decent size. Breakfast buffet was average and could be improved (a lot of the dishes have no labels). Staff service is also quite average.

« Stylish hotel within easy walking distance of The Bund »

This hotel has many names when you look it up including Metropolo Classiq Rock Bund which even our tour company used and does not have the greatest reviews under that name. However it seems to have been recently renovated and changed names, as the Golden Tulip is in several countries and seems to addressed many of the issues. The decor is very stylish and the bathroom in particular is very high spec. There is an issue with water from the shower coming under the shower door as the draining is not right but having both a rain shower, hand shower and a bath is excellent. The foyer is impressive with a coffee machine while you are waiting and the breakfast was exceptional with many choices. We never found muesli in China but there is fabulous yogurt and fruit. It is hard to know where to stay when you look at the size of Shanghai but this is within 10 minutes walking of The Bund and there is a very useful convenience store open until late just diagonally opposite which sells good priced water and most things. The wifi needs constant refreshing and as everywhere in China no gmail, Google or What's App which is so frustrating for tourists. Even photo attachments to email seem to be a no no and emails coming in have a delay maybe being checked! If you have not booked direct using your credit card you need to pay a deposit of 300 cny, so I have a specific credit card with a maximum limit of NZ500 at a bank which is not my main bank and I have no other account there. You need to get a receipt and make sure you produce it on checkout for an instant reversal. Some hotels deduct it and some hold it.If you use your main credit card it is good practice to use it as soon as you get back to your country so the banks can look at any late transactions. This is not just China but any country. My only wish is that the English is spoken better at reception and the seriousness of informing the Police electronically that you have arrived is replaced with smiling staff, less like Government employees. This is tourism and China is a great place to visit.

« Fantastic Stay! »

Stayed at the Golden Tulip for my last days in Shanghai and was great. The room is very modern, super clean and very spacious. The hotel is in a great location, about a 10 minute walk from Nanjing Road and about 5 minute walk to nearest subway stop. The hotel staff are great and always willing to help. If back I am back in Shanghai there is no doubt I will stay in this hotel once again. Highly recommend this hotel.
