Superior room

Located less than 10 kilometres from the Noord-Holland coast and on the edge of the historic cheese town itself, the Golden Tulip Alkmaar is a 4 star hotel with 76 rooms. The neo-classical building was opened as a hotel in 2001 and is decorated with paintings from local Alkmaar artists. There is a hotel bar, an onsite Oriental restaurant and a coffee shop for hungry guests returning from a day at the beach.

The 76 rooms at the Golden Tulip Alkmaar are all equipped with telephones, pay TV, a safe as well as air-conditioning, and bathrooms have bathtubs and hairdryers. Wi-Fi is available in the 4 star rooms and the hotel offers room service, too. Accommodation types range from Standard to Superior, with the option of a Queen bed or two singles.

A 24-hour reception means that check-in doesn't have to be before a certain time and if guests need help accessing the Wi-Fi in the middle of the night, there will always be someone on hand. Six conference rooms will appeal to business travellers and a bar, lounge and Oriental restaurant mean guests don't have to go far if they're looking for a great hotel in Alkmaar. For those seeking some time-out, there's a sauna and a beauty salon in the hotel too.

The Golden Tulip Alkmaar is a short distance from the beach and sand dunes, and located on the edge of Alkmaar, a town famed for its cheese market. Whether it's a cultural day out or some sunbathing and swimming, there's something in the immediate surroundings for everyone. The hotel is also on the end of the highway from Amsterdam and the airport, making for easy access if arriving by air and for day-trips.

« pleasantly surprised »

Stayed here for 3 nights while spending weekend in region for friends and family. I was pleasantly surprised about this chain hotel. great service, excellent room, good breakfast, and overall great value. I asked for indoor garage for car, at a low 6.50/night cost. Center of city is a bit far, but this was not my reason to visit. Excellent alternative if you need good business or personal stay in Alkmaar.

« Excellent choice in beautiful Alkmaar »

This hotel is very easy to find if you are driving to Alkmaar. The free parking is nice, the rooms are a good size and the beds are comfortable. The breakfast was varied and plentiful. And as others have mentioned the staff are especially friendly and helpful. This isn't a five star deluxe property, but then you aren't paying five star prices either. But on the scale of quality/price it definitely gets five stars from me. You aren't in the centre of this stunningly beautiful town, but if you have a car this is the place to be. You can walk to the centre, or you can rent a good quality bicycle from the hotel (€9.50 per day). Tip: if the weather is good rent a bike and make a tour through the farmland and dunes to Egmond Aan Zee where you can enjoy the seaside and have a typical Dutch lunch before cycling back. Detailed cycling maps are available from the tourist office (VVV). Parking tip: A reasonably-priced parking garage near the centre of Alkmaar is Parkeergarage Schelphoek, just down the road from the hotel. It is modern and spacious compared to some other garages in the centrum. €15 per day maximum, but you won't pay nearly that much if you are just there for a couple of hours. The bottom line: Alkmaar is perfect for a day or two visit away from Amsterdam and the bigger cities. If you only visit one smaller Dutch town, this is a great choice. Alkmaar will give you a real flavour of the Netherlands.
