« WOW! WOW! WOW! »

WOW! WOW! WOW! This was our first visit, but we should have come on holiday to Cuba years ago!! Our first impression of The Golden Tulip was their wonderful staff. They were always smiling, always polite, always friendly and always hard working. I’ve got to name some key people who made this holiday so memorable. Andy, Yery, Adys, Judy and Orlando (who really looks like Ronaldo) from the bar and Leivys from the restaurant. Not forgetting the Bell Boy’s would pick you up in their electric vehicles and run you round the complex whenever you wanted them. On numerous occasions I had the pleasure to meet the manager of Customer Service, the very charming, and always smiling, Leidy. She was assisted by Miguel and Ally. What a great team they are. Whenever we met they would always ask “Is everything OK”? “Is there anything we could do for you”? Very professional and very caring! Towards the end of our time there I had a chat with a guy outside the lobby, who again, was interested in our comfort at the Golden Tulip. I told him what a fantastic time we had and said we would be coming back in the future. I then found out he was the General Manager named Christian. How often have you to been to a hotel to find the General Manager mingling with the guests to get an opinion directly from them? If you do have a problem, speak to the Customer Service team while you are there as they can hopefully rectify it. Please don’t wait until you go home then complain on social media! It’s a very grand and very imposing hotel. The lobby was extremely impressive. Our room with a sea view was equally impressive. We had Maid service every day in which towels and linen were changed. Clean and tidy, massive bed, powerful shower, fully stocked mini-bar and some very creative towel origami which made us smile, especially on the last day. When you get there, you’ll see what I mean about the last day. You’ll never go hungry at the Golden Tulip. Not only do they have a wide range of foods in the buffet restaurant, you can visit three more restaurants, International, Cuban and Italian. We didn’t have a bad meal in two weeks and came back with tighter fitting trousers! Amongst other things, fresh fish is cooked to your liking right in front of you in the Buffet restaurant. There are plenty of well stocked bars all around the hotel, don’t worry, you’ll find them all. Tips are not compulsory but are always welcomed by the staff. They do really do deserve them for the hard work they put in. Wi-Fi is available in the Lobby. When it’s busy in there it can take a while to get connected with one of the 1 peso Wi-Fi cards which last an hour. I was assured they were looking to improve the Wi-Fi service. The Beach! The Beach! The Beach! Get down to the beach around 06:30 to watch the dolphins just off shore. I saw them on 3 consecutive mornings and it was great to see them swimming freely. I can’t promise they’ll be there every day, but they are worth getting up early for. If you don’t see them, you’ve always got the spectacular sunrise to watch. The beach is absolutely wonderful! Top tip. Take an underwater GoPro camera. White sand and shallow blue warm crystal clear waters which are teaming with very tame fish! There’s plenty of shade and sunbeds, so no need to get up in the middle of the night to throw down towels to reserve the beds. Make sure you call to the watersports area, where they have free rides on the catamarans’, pedalo’s and kayaks. There are two bars on the beach and one that does ‘create your own pizza’. One day there was a massive outdoor BBQ near the beach bar and a guy chopping the heads off coconuts and pouring plenty of rum in them. I really recommend that! Beware of the mosquito’s. We arrived after numerous days of heavy rain which caused more than usual of these silent little ninjas searching you out! I was told the Canadian guests had great protection from Gold Bond and Muskol repellent. I met one guest who was complaining to me about the mosquito bites. I asked her which repellent did she bring with her? “None” was the reply. A bit of preparation goes a long way! So, there it is, my personal views of this great hotel and great staff. People have different expectations, so take your time and take note of all views and you’ll soon get a good idea what to expect. Hope you have a fantastic time like we had! Regards Rob & Joanne

« Great hotel - will be back »

Let me start by saying we have been to Cancun MX and Dominican republic and Varadero, Cuba more times I can remember (15 years, 2 or 3 times a year), this was our second visit to a hotel in the Cuba keys. To this hotel we went a big party, 5 rooms 5 nights The hotel experience overall was great, the hotel staff is friendly and helpful, we like to travel on off season months, June, Sept etc to avoid full hotels and problems with lack of staff or resources. The only draw back is usually hotels take that time to do repairs etc The Beach was amazing, one of the best of cuba no doubt, the hotel has beach access from all buildings, although the side of the higher number buildings 15+ is the best side, has an incredible Bar right there in front of the beach (shout out to the couple that works there, they are some of the people that made our stay feel special) as well as the lunch restaurant (shout out to Adrian at the grill, that guy is the best!) . The main pool was also incredible, closer to lower number buildings clean well maintained and the pool bar was excellent, with the beach like that we spent little time at the pool, if you like pools this pool has 3 levels, good for kids and adults alike, choose your level of quietness, the quietest being the completely separated pool closer to the lunch/main beach entrance (family pool), cant say much about that pool because we never went there, only pass by on our way to/from the beach. Our routine was simple, we stayed at building 8, and every day we go have breakfast then head out to the beach walking or by cart, spend the whole day there including lunch and then back to the main pool (closer to our building) around 5pm until 7pm The room - was clean and confortable, nothing special, not modern or anything worth mentioning, the mini bar was stocked daily with 2 beers , 2 sodas and a big bottle of water. Some of the rooms on my party got ocean view from the 1st and 2nd floor, not us, but we really did not spend much time in the room. Other than that not much to say about it. The food - Dinner OK, plenty of fish but some items will disappear for times depending on popularity, ice cream, cheese etc. The buffet had the same stuff every day, never went to specialty restaurants due to the large party and the trouble coordinating. Lunch was great, they always had different fish, burgers, and the chicken from the grill was awesome. Breakfast was also OK, omelet station, pancakes etc. did not see much yogurt etc but plenty of fruits There is a 24h snack bar next to the main pool that serves burgers, sandwich, hotdogs fries etc. Entertainment - Great, every day different show for a whole week, loved the Rock band and the Flamenco The negatives now in order of gravity It gets very hot, the lobby area where you spend most of the time has a 24h bar (Bartender Orlando was great guy, fast and efficient, same with the girls that attend the tables) great place to spend the time until late but the whole building has a air circulation problem, it gets so hot there that you do not stop sweating. they need to do something about that, install industrial ceiling fans, open the windows from the top, or have a large A/C area or something (not the cigar bar which closes at 11 and smells like cigars). Drinks, all bars do not have the same stuff, the lobby bar has plenty of drinks, whiskey, tequila, vodka etc but the others, pool, snack bar, beach bar lack on selection. Music in the lobby area was on for a few days then off, then back on. We like to dance and party, not seat and drink. Some time we took our own speakers to animate the place.
