« Close to Central Station; good rooms »

Stayed here for a conference. Driving the hotel can be a bit confusing esp the entrance is both sides. Parking Lot doesnt have too many spaces but for a fee one can park in the parking lot. The conference rooms are quite organised. Breakfast spread is good although it was difficult to catch attention for coffee. Lunch was good and had one or two vegetarian item ; but the kitchen and staff responded quickly for adding something vegetarian for the buffet.Food was good. Reception was ok and could be warmer. In walking distance to nice parts of town for a boat ride and dinner. ; it is just near the central station. Rooms are spacious and had all amenities though the fridge/mini bar was empty. Comfortable beds

« Good Spot for exploring Leiden »

This hotel is a good choice as a base for exploring Leiden, and is 5 minutes walk from the train station, so it took only 30 minutes to get here from Schipol. The rooms are fine - clean and modern, but not overly spacious and with limited storage. One of our rooms smelled of drains, and the reception staff were happy to provide us with an alternative. Only a c.10 minute walk into the centre of the city.

« Well located »

Spent 3 nights in Leiden as part of a visit to the Netherlands. Good location a couple of minutes walk from the station and close to a number of restaurants/bars. The room was average size, clean & comfortable, tea and coffee facilities provided but cleaning staff failed to refill one of the days. The storage space was a bit lacking, one wardrobe and a few shelves but only 5 hangers for 2 of us to share! No draw space and only one bedside table. The main negative is that the corridors smell very strongly of an overpowering air freshener, although, thankfully, this did not extend to the rooms. Parking was available to the rear of the hotel but rather expensive. We did not try the breakfast as at 16.50 Euro per person we felt this was pricey unless you like a large breakfast to start your day (Starbucks at the station did a coffee & croissant for a fraction of the cost!). Likewise we did not eat at the hotel restaurant as there were plenty of much cheaper options a few minutes walk away. The hotel was a good base to explore the local area, the train to Amsterdam took 35 minutes and ran frequently, Leiden itself is a pleasant town with museums, botanical garden etc and further afield Delft, Gouda and Rotterdam are all within easy reach. Overall a good place to stay if you want to avoid the big cities but still want to be able to visit for day trips.

« Good location but poor conference menu »

I stayed at the Golden Tulip for 9 days attending a couple of meetings held at the same venue. The reception staff were very friendly and efficient. I was not happy to be charged for an extra night for checking in at midday instead of 3pm but I was exhausted after an overnight flight and train journey so I checked in anyway. The hotel is conveniently located near the train station and convenience stores, and is a short walk to the Leiden shopping street. The rooms are clean and comfortable with towels changed daily and bed linen every three days. The conference rooms were fine, with coffee and snacks provided at tea breaks, but the conference lunch package was miserable - mostly uninspiring sandwiches with not much else to choose. Many colleagues preferred to look for a meal in the nearby fast food restaurants. Breakfast had a much better apread, though, ranging from fruit and yoghurt to hot elements like eggs, bacon and baked beans. Overall it was a comfortable and convenient stay. Would I stay there again, yes.

« Excellent location »

This hotel is superbly located almost beside the railway station, therefore so easy to reach Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport, Den Haag and Rotterdam. Leiden is a wonderful place as it seems to be a microcosm of Holland. Many different aspects of Dutch life are visible there. Tourist Information Office is also close as are the local bus services, which include the service to Keukenhof, the beautiful annual flower garden show. Don't miss it, runs from about third week in March to third week in May Hotel staff very pleasant and helpful, breakfast buffet provided for good range of tastes.
