What to do in Vitrolles?
A visit to Vitrolles means discovering the ancient village built around the Roucas, a high rock at the top of which stand Notre-Dame de Vie chapel and the Sarrasin tower. Other unmissable attractions in Vitrolles are Saint-Gérard church, completed in 1744, and the fountain at the place de la République, built in 1894; these are the pride of the local area. On fine-weather days, it will take you just a few minutes to reach the Salins du Lion bird reserve. These old salt marshes evocative of Camargue are home to over 108 species of birds, including cattle egrets and pink flamingos. When directing your hike northwards, Marettes beach is the perfect spot to unwind in the shade of the tamarisk trees. During your stay, our hotel close to étang de Berre will also be the starting point for exciting excursions towards Marignane and the local Raimu museum, as well as Istres and its center of contemporary art.

To discover them, you can follow hiking trail GR2013 running along Jaï lido, the stretch of sand that separates étang de Berre and étang de Bolmon. Here, you can admire contrasting landscapes where dunes run into lagunas, marshes, reed beds, wet meadows, dry grasslands and pine forests. To better get to know étang de Berre, you can continue your walk on GR2013 along the west bank, until Ranquet beach and Romaniquette beach, near Istres old town. At the heart of the medieval city, you can walk along étang de l’Olivier, recognizable thanks to its water stream, which is the highest in France. In summer, this is the launch site for the fireworks set off to close the famous “Jeudis étoilés” (Starry Thursdays).
