GOLDEN TULIP ESSENTIAL BENIN CITY
Our customers' reviews of hotel Golden Tulip Essential, Benin City
Nice place to stay. Staff very efficient and courteous. Rooms are very cosy and spacious but a little overpriced at NGN25,000 (Breakfast inclusive) but good when you need a good place to relax either for business or pleasure. Only slight negative is that the phone number provided in the Hotel's website is not working and this was pointed out to the Desk Officer. Overall, its a good place to stay when you are in Benin City, Nigeria.
So, from what I understand, Golden Tulip Essential is a new wing of Escalibur Hotel, so it may get confusing. It's the same hotel but a new wing with a different name. I stayed here for 3 days for a work event. The reception area is very friendly and cosy, check in was a breeze, it was like they were waiting on standby for my team and I. We were greeted by the bubbly and ever smiling Manager of sales and marketing, Mr Treasure Timi. I stayed on the first floor with a 319 number which was odd but understood. My room was modern, the mattress firm, the size of the room was regular not as big as what I am used too. The room comes with a tray of ingredients for tea but no electric kettle. The bedroom sink area does not have a countertop or cabinet thereby making it difficult to display your toiletries and cosmetics. There was no bathroom mirror light either, making it difficult to apply makeup. Breakfast was just ok, nothing fantastic with very limited variety. The Akara was the best though, thank you chef Bolaji! Lunch buffet was ok as well, nothing fantastic. The event hall we used was new and nice, the air conditioning was like being in Alaska. It had an indented area for tea break. The lightening though was very poor for academic work, we had to pull up the blinds for some natural light. The hall didn't have an intercom so we had to keep go up and down when we wanted help with something. The tea breaks for both days were good. The hotel needs to find a way of addressing flies, I was always swatting flies away from my person and my food......disgusting. Overall, it's a nice hotel, located relatively close to the airport. The staff were very polite and helpful but they need to be adequately trained. Mr. Timi was very receptive, helpful, meticulous and he made sure we enjoyed our stay. Everything was on time as scheduled. I will definitely stay here again and I highly recommend this hotel.
I stayed here on a work trip to Benin City last autumn. It was self-financed so I was looking for a budget option, and at 12000 Naira, my room at the Excalibur pretty much fitted the bill. There may be better places in Benin City for all I know, but this was fine for me. It's nothing special to look at, but it does have a small pool and also feels reasonably secure (if you're worried about that kind of thing) as it's set back behind high gates. Hotel reception was also friendly. Can't really remember what the food was like, to be honest, so I'll avoid commenting on that. Suffice to say, though, that there is a bar that serves cold beer...
I am in here now and it seems this hotel has got two names....On inquiry am told Golden Tulip is taking Excalibor hotel..I am excited and skeptical at the same time. Excited because it will be a refreshing addition to the locality, skeptical because Tulip in Warri is not so fantastic. . The structural additional is fantastic here, I hope the new incoming Tulip management is.....
Great Hotel. Entering the hotel premises automatically ease your feeling and welcome you into a serene environment with friendly staffs, equipped rooms, wonderful food services, good WIFI connection and a very nice pool bar. I actually enjoyed my stay and look forward to coming back whenever I visit Benin again. Observation: The bathroom needs a shower curtain because water spillage while bathing messes the floor. Aside that, the place is perfect.
