« Good value for money, but issues with internal noise »

We selected this hotel for our Easter break, and our first trip to Beirut. There are a lot of high-end hotels in Beirut, but after some research we settled on this hotel based on location/price. I have to say we were not disappointed. It's in the busy Hamra area, with lots of shops and restaurants, and it it also possible to walk to the Corniche. The rooms are a little dated, but we could not fault the cleanliness, or comfort. Free mineral water is provided. Whilst there is no security at the entrance, you do need a room key to use the lifts, and we certainly felt safe. There are a few issues, however, worth mentioning. We couldn't even hear the person who was checking us in due to excess noise from the restaurant. Our initial room on the second floor was too noisy, an alternative offered on the fifth was slightly better. Our second night (Sat) was also blighted by yet another party and loud music. Maybe it was only a weekend thing, as mercifully our remaining nights were noise-free. I accept the hotel is a business, and "music nights" increase revenue; but first and foremost it's a hotel where people should be able to sleep in peace and quiet. The issue is the rooms are built around an atrium so any noise from downstairs seeps into the atrium. On a more minor note, breakfast, which to be fair was included in our room rate, was no more than adequate. The staff huddled together in a corner. Eggs cooked to order were extra, which was a bit mean-spirited. The staff might have looked less bored if they were given something else to do.

« Welcoming, but not perfect »

We arrived in Beirut on the 31st March. Having the Easter break ahead of us we were unsure about what we could do and if many places would be open as normal. From the moment we entered for check in, to every time we walked past reception Rayan (apologies if the spelling is incorrect) was simply excellent. She was attentive, courteous and so polite. The language barrier seemed to be an ongoing occurrence for us in Beirut but she did all that she can to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. Firas, the hotel driver was fantsatic! We booked a day trip with him to take us to Harissa and Byblos and he was so patient and helpful, giving us a tour of the iconic points of Beirut. The rooms were a little worn down and the hotel in general can definitely do with refurbishment however, we couldnt fault the cleanliness. The restaurant staff were incredibly miserable and I think this is what keeps me back from rating this hotel a 5. They would huddle up and have a chat or stare at you and were just not very polite at all. If i went back to Beirut, I will definitely stay at Golden Tulip Serenada, though. The location is fantastic and as mentioned previously, the reception staff are who make this stay so welcoming. The pool was unfortunately still closed due to the season which was another point that may have let this down for us as it would have been nice to be prewarned so that we could plan accordingly. All in all, Lebanon was a great trip for us, as was the food!
