This hotel is lovely and the service is great. The room is cozy and recently updated. The bathroom is especially nice and the shower is huge by European standards. The location is a bit farther from Gare de Lyon than we expected but definitely walkable, even with our luggage. There is an amazing farmer’s market around the corner on weekends with every kind of food you can imagine.

« Wonderful location, gorgeous room »

My husband, 11-year-old daughter and I were in Paris for a few days a couple of weeks ago. We would be taking a train from Gare de Lyon in the morning so we wanted to find a hotel near the train station. It was difficult to find any hotels in Paris that would accommodate three people, so I was very happy when I discovered that the Golden Tulip Gare de Lyon Le 209 had a room available for us. We arrived at the hotel at about 9:30 a.m. and hoped the hotel would store our luggage during the day until we could check in. But the courteous hotel agent did even better than that. He said that our room was ready, and checked us in. A large quick elevator took us to our room on the the eighth floor. We were happy to find a well-sized room that had a queen bed, a twin-sized fold out bed for our daughter, and a toilet and washroom. There was a small wrap-around balcony on the west side of the room with a gorgeous view of the city, and a terrace with a small table on the east side. The décor was simple and elegant, and the room was immaculately clean. The beds were comfortable, and the room was quiet. We heard very little street noise. Our room rate did not include breakfast, so I can’t comment on it. My husband went down to it one morning though and said he didn’t think it would be worth paying the fee they asked for it. There are a couple of patisseries, and a café near the hotel. There also is a Monoprix across the street, which sells food. The hotel’s location is wonderful. Not only is the hotel near the Gare de Lyon train station, it also is less than 50 feet from the Dugommier Metro stop, on the green line, which goes directly to the Eiffel Tower. By transferring to other trains you can basically get anywhere in the city from this stop. The hotel agents said we could walk to the Gare de Lyon in about 20 minutes. Or, the bus stop is across the street from the hotel, and we were told it is about a five minute bus ride. Or, you can take the Metro like we did, which entails taking the green line from Dugommier for a short ride to Bercy, transferring to another train and riding from Bercy to Gare de Lyon. A note about reservations, if possible, book the room directly with the hotel either on its website or by email directly with the hotel. The hotel’s website had one rate, but when I emailed the hotel, I was quoted a better rate than the website, plus it would have included breakfast. Unfortunately for me, I hesitated to give my credit card number by email, and I called the U.S. phone number listed on the hotel’s website. The woman I spoke with by phone gave a higher rate, and it didn’t include breakfast. I figured the lower rate quoted by email was no longer available and I went ahead and booked it by phone. After emailing the hotel again I learned that apparently the phone number was a third-party agent.
