« The best business hotel in Muscat »

Stayed here for 2 nights. Conveniently located in the business district of Muscat, Tulip Inn Downtown (still known as Ruwi Hotel) offered a clean, large room with decent breakfast. The location was so excellent that I did not use the taxi at all ... The main bus station was just a few min walk from the hotel, and I could reach major sites by using the public bus. Ruwi was a very lively neighbourhood, a lot of interesting shops and cheap (but tasty) cafes and restaurants. The hotel got an outdoor pool as well, although it was too cold to use it in January. The staff members were all friendly and helpful. I shall definitely consider Tulip Inn Downtown again.

« Excellent location for downtown / CBD Muscat, very comfortable and convenient »

The Tulip Inn Downtown was formerly known as the Ruwi Hotel and has been a landmark of the area for some time. My room was large, very clean, and comfortable; the mattress had a good feel, the bed-linen was soft and sparkling white; the pillows were soft. Everything in the attached bathroom worked, as did the WiFi (very well, I might add; I had no problems with connectivity of both my iPhone and my laptop). Staff were friendly and efficient, with most of my interactions being with the receptionist on duty when I arrived and when i checked out, Mr. Shanavas. Very courteous and very efficient, was readily able to answer my few questions and offered a great deal of assistance. The hotel interiors appear to have been recently refurbished and everything looked clean and very presentable. Perhaps because of the "extra-long weekend" (five days of holidays) it did seem somewhat underpopulated, but of course that made it very quiet. Despite the main road being adjacent there was no discernible traffic noise in my room on the 5th floor. The only comment would be that access to the hotel's main entrance is through a ramp: entirely convenient for guests arriving or leaving by vehicle, slightly less so for those choosing to come and go on foot. A buffet breakfast (included in my room rate, but for some bookings possibly at an additional charge) is served daily from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the coffee-shop / restaurant off the main lobby. A variety of cuisines were on offer, including of course cereals, juices, tea/coffee; eggs (omelettes or waffles to order) and accompaniments (sausages, baked beans); Arabic dishes; and South Indian favourites; with a good quantity of bakery items. Excellent quantities of all items, and adequate quality, commensurate with the property's three-star rating. The croissants were disappointing but the whole-wheat bread, when toasted, was good. The omelette could have been fluffier and sauteed in butter rather than oil. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. A very pleasant short stay and a property I intend to use again, and to recommend to others.
